Some thoughts
This blog is dedicated to my thoughts and opinions relating to our first foray into the paragon tier of D&D 4th Ed. See the campaign notes for the fluff and the crunch.

Initial thoughts: My setting is heavy handed. This is due to a running spate of evil games. I'm trying to set them up as heroes who have the chance to end this undead apocalypse nightmare. However, the heroes (through no fault of their own e.g. before the game starts) are in the clutches of an evil slaving, undead working empire.
I know...
Zombies under the yolk? Working the hard jobs so slaves can do jobs that require more skill. Terrible, I know. A sneaky trick by the lord of undeath to play upon human sloth
Hopefully the party will overthrow Lord Ashell the impure and begin the ending of this undead nightmare.
The Stars:
The 18th level party is composed of a Warlord (inspiring), Rogue (brutal), Fighter (hammerer), and Ranger (melee). They work as a cohesive block, with the ranger and rogue working around the other two. Very effective in enclosed spaces or against enemies who aren't particularly mobile. However, they are startlingly lacking in any kind of ranged attack. At best some characters have a fall back javelin.
Thoughts on our first fights:
The poor, poor hydra. Of course the hydra was slightly lower level than the party. The PC's just moved up on the hydra and started chopping it to pieces. The poor hydra never even got to recharge his burn breath.
The Demi-Lich was another story. Only mercy (and players passing out) that saved us from TPK. I think we will call the fight with the demi-lich a nightmare, foreshadowing the impending doom of the party. The fight was on very uneven ground, and the lich had enough room to manoeuver (not tons). The great speed and range of the demi-lich proved more than the group could handle. Considering the terrain, I'm sure the party would have done just a poorly on an unbroken plane. However, I don't think the skull would have had a chance in a 30' room with 10' ceilings. The next fight with the demi-lich will have to be in a sealed enviornment if the Characters are to survive.
When the PC's escape, it may just be the demi-lich that is sent to hunt them down...
